A daytime homeschool physical education class in Hickory, NC that actually counts — Aikido-based fitness, coordination, teamwork and self-defense for ages 6–15, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 PM, August through May.
AikiDojo of Hickory’s Homeschool Class is a structured martial-arts PE program for homeschooled students ages 6–15, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:00 PM during the school year (August–May). It covers fitness, coordination, teamwork, discipline and age-appropriate Aikido self-defense, and satisfies physical education requirements for homeschool records. Siblings train together. New families get a free week.
Warm-ups, conditioning, flexibility, balance and coordination work you can log as PE hours with confidence.
Age-appropriate escapes, falls, throws and controls — the same curriculum as our evening kids and teen programs.
Partner drills, group exercises and dojo etiquette give homeschool kids structured time with peers.
The dojo’s routines — bowing, lining up, listening — transfer directly to the home classroom.
Ages 6–15 train together with older students mentoring younger ones, the way homeschool families already work.
Homeschool students test for belts on the same track as evening students and can add evening classes anytime.
All classes at 2364 Springs Rd NE, Hickory, NC 28601. Membership includes every Homeschool PE class on the schedule.

Finding PE that isn’t just “go outside and run” is one of the perennial challenges of homeschooling — especially in the middle of a weekday. Our 1 PM Tuesday/Thursday class solves it. Students get a real physical education taught by an 8th Dan, families get a consistent schedule that fits the school day, and siblings from six to fifteen can train in the same hour.
The class runs August through May to match the school year and pauses for summer. Families from Hickory, Conover, Newton, Bethlehem, Claremont and across Catawba, Alexander and Caldwell counties attend. Many students also join Young Warriors or Teen Samurai in the evenings for extra mat time.
